Best wishes to all for 2010 and beyond!
Pimp my Woolies!
Well, not much to do when you are snowed in and have to stay indoors….soo I thought I would grab some of the crimbo gifts and customise them a little bit – what do you think? The gloves are quite girly so best to be worn with a black grown-up coat I think and the beret is to be worn tomorrow as I brave it out for a pint of milk! A nice old – fashioned way to spend an afternoon

Tea Party

I hand wove the corset using (again) recycled materials. This time it was binding tape that is used for batches of cardboard. There was a skirt to match from a college competition but the whole look was far too “student” so bought a great pair of liquid leggings that looked amazing on the model (Shidan from Morgan)
Thanks to both Rebecca in Morgan and Caoilfhinn Walsh for the photography. Watch out for Shidan she is going to take on the world!

Some work from the wild side
These were made from recycled items – pictured here I have made a brooch from Wondaweb- the stuff you use to make a hem no stitching required! It has a lovely chiffon feel so I immediately thought it would be a great way to recreate an ostrich feather. The bangle has been shown on the dummies neck, but is a bangle made from a recycled spring water bottle…Its inspired by the accordion like shape of an armadillo

Dublin Fashion Week!!
What an honour to be chosen as a group of 4 students to participate in Dublin Fashion Week 2009! Up at the crack of dawn running around all day in the madness of getting the girls on stage and looking good and then last to leave as every shoe, bangle, shirt, dress is returned in mint condition …or else. I want more!
Thanks to Paula Hughes for the opportunity to work with a Pro and see how its done. Pics courtesy of Irish Independent
PS was delighted to see this coverage in the Indo the next day – I dressed Veronica who wears the LOVE Sweater from Anthology by Avoca (left) and in Paul Costello (right)

People I like: milliner and designer Wendy Duffy
I’m hoping to get images of Wendy’s work, they are truly beautiful pieces. Her designs have featured in Irish Tatler, U magazine and Image magazines.
Following a course at the Grafton Academy of Fashion Design in Dublin, Wendy emigrated to the United States after securing a green card and took night classes at the FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York. She worked under Tracey Watts who had worked with Balenciaga in Paris and was supplying hats and headpieces to high end department stores such as Barneys of New York. I always admire people who get results no matter what the cost and sacrifice and I love that Wendy did not go the traditional route of a BA to get to where she is today.
Today, Wendy provides beautiful headwear for period drama on TV and film most notably The Tudors, she researches the fashion of each era for accuracy and uses natural fibres, processing them herself to get the textures right for the time. In addition her hats are available in Brown Thomas in Dublin and she also does specially commissioned bridal head wear.
